This one item collection is a notebook concerning the election campaign in Franklin County, Kentucky, in 1867. Written on the notebook is "Bowen Campaign 1867." Clippings pasted inside the book concern a protest from the Market House precinct in Frankfort, an article about S.I.M. Major, and an oath of loyalty to the U.S. Also included is a letter to S.I.M. Major from E. Rumsey Wing, dated Louisville, June 6, 1867. The letter concerns oaths of allegiance. Names listed in the notebook are apparently aligned with either Major (S.I.M.?) or Bowen (D.M.?). in an election between the two. The owner of the notebook is unknown.

Major was a prominent figure in Frankfort's antebellum leadership. Along with other leading citizens, Major was involved in organizing the Bank of Kentucky, Farmers Bank, the Capitol Hotel, the Frankfort public school system, numerous churches, various turnpike companies, and steam boat and stagecoach lines.
